Worship meetings ever Sunday at 10am & 5pm

The Salvation Army opened fire in Burton
        in 1886 as Corps number 827.

We are a thriving Corps serving the town and surrounding community.
we have 117 soldiers and 42 adherents on the roll.

  • Our aim is to show practical concern and care for the needs of people regardless of race, creed, status, colour, sex or age.
  • Our social/welfare work in Burton and the surrounding communities includes :
    • Hosting a drop-in Soup Kitchen,
    • Supplying food parcels and clothing for those in desperate need,
    • and at Christmas time, 'toys' for disadvantage families.

  • The hymn tune 'Mosley Street' which is named after the address of our hall
    was composed by Bramwell Houghton.

The Musical Sections

The Senior Band (Brass Band) of 16 members and Songster Brigade (Adult Choir) of 18 members, perform every Sunday during the meetings, to accompany the hymns, enhance the meetings and bring the message of Our Lord.

Throughout the year the Band & Songsters with the assistance of the Senior Timbrel Group, also perform outside of our place of worship, at other churches, nursing homes, hospitals, fetes and garden parties etc. as a form of evangelism.(note :- statistics as of April 2012)

Mission Statement of Burton Corps

The Burton Citadel Corps of the Salvation Army is a Christian fellowship who meet to worship God, believing that the Holy Spirit will enable an individual to grow continually in the faith and use fully their gifts and talents in his service.

Our aims are :

  1. to provide both a place for friendship and worship of God for all regardless of race or circumstances.
  2. to communicate the gospel of Jesus Christ and to bring others to acceptance of Jesus as their personal Saviour.
  3. to provide wherever possible practical help and understanding to those in need.
